Playing

Playing with Mommy and Daddy this evening.

Memorial Day

Just some pictures from around the yard on Memorial Day.

Six Months

Here's his 6 month picture, as promised.

Off the charts

We just got back from Stian's 6 month appointment. He did well. He got shots, but he did okay with them. We'll see how he's doing this evening because he was very fussy the evening after his 4 month shots. Although I think he was also sick then. So we'll see.

We saw the nurse practitioner. She said he looked healthy. She wasn't concerned about him being late to do some things - like rolling over. Speaking of which, just this morning he really rolled over on his own. He could do it before if his arms happened to be up by his head. But if he moved his arm down by his side he wouldn't move it back up and couldn't push enough to roll over his arm. But this morning several times he moved his arm back up and out of the way on his own and then rolled. Anyway, she said it's just because he's a big baby and has more to move around, so he will be late doing these things.

And yes, he is a big baby! He's 23 lbs, which is off the growth charts now. He's 27.5" which is the 90th percentile. And his head is 47 centimeters, which is also off the charts. She said this was nothing to worry about, especially since he is proportional. And she said we can expect his weight gain to really slow down now that he is becoming more mobile, and he will start to slim down. Although I can't imagine a slim Stian!

He's napping at the moment, but I will take a 6 month picture this afternoon if he is still feeling well.

Solids

Stian had rice cereal for the first time today. He seemed to like it. I'm not sure how much he actually swallowed, but he definitely got some, and appeared to like eating it. I guess it should come as no surprise that this little boy likes to eat!

Monster Butt

Check out the new wool longies I made for Stian to go over his fitted diapers. He-he. They're a little big, but hopefully we're finally going to get some warm weather and he won't be needing wool longies again until fall, when these will fit. Although with the way this child grows, he could be in size 4T by then! :)

In other news, we've been working on getting Stian on some semblance of a schedule lately. Nothing rigid, but hopefully something a little more predictable for all of us. I'm hoping it will help with his napping and sleeping at night issues. It's going okay. The nicest part is that he has stopped nursing quite so often, so we're down to nursing 8 times a day rather than the 12 we were doing before. And he's realized he doesn't need to nurse to go to sleep - at least for naps. He still wants to nurse before he goes to bed at night and several times in the middle of the night. But one step at a time.

First Mother's Day

Today was my first Mother's Day as a mother. I spent it hanging out with Kris and Wayne and Stian.

Kris got me a really special Mother's Day gift. He commissioned a necklace from an artist in Wales, Hannah Salomon, whose jewelry company is called Kutuu. This is someone Karin has worked with before, and I've drooled over her work since Karin showed me her website. I love the necklace, I think it's gorgeous. Here I am all excited when I realize he's gotten me something from Kutuu.

And here it is (the lighting in this picture is pretty awful):

And can you see Stian's birthday in the leaves of the branch?

I love my necklace. It was a really nice first Mother's Day.

Uncle Wayne!

Wayne came to visit and finally got to meet Stian! He's actually here for a conference at Purdue, so came to visit a day early.

Look - Uncle Wayne can play the guitar too! And he knows different songs than Daddy. Stian was quite impressed.

Stian appeared to like Wayne, although kids often seem to like Wayne.

It was really good to see Wayne and to have him finally meet his little nephew.

Slow Motion Rolling

I was trying to take a picture of Stian in his new wool soaker that my mom made, and he decided to roll over in slow motion. I'm not sure he knew what he was doing, but he would move a little and then lie like that for a short while, then move a little more, etc., until he was finally on his back. It probably took him 4-5 minutes to go from belly to back. I'm not sure if this really counts as rolling over, but we're getting closer!

I Voted!

Stian and I just got back from Stian's first voting experience at the Fire House in Battle Ground. When we got there both ballot card creating machines were frozen and voting had halted. Thankfully they were fixed by a paperclip. Ah yes, that instills confidence in our voting system.

Who would have thought that Indiana's primary would actually count for something in the presidential election? Stian was thankful he didn't have to vote and choose between Obama and Clinton.

Music Time

Kris and Stian have music time pretty much every day. Kris will play guitar for Stian for a little while, and then he'll set the guitar across Stian's lap and put Stian's hands on the guitar or the string so he can feel the vibrations as Kris strums. Stian really seems to enjoy it - he pays such close attention.

Let's just hope Stian gets his Daddy's musical abilities and not mine.

Chub

Stian says "I don't know why everyone always says I'm so chubby..."

(the poor kid is going to have such a complex from everyone groaning and grunting under the weight when they pick him up.)

Grandma and Grandpa were here!

Grandma and Grandpa were needing a Stian fix, so they came for a visit. May 2nd was Grandma's birthday, so she got to spend at least part of the day with her grandson (the rest of the day she was in the car).

Stian likes his Grandma and Grandpa, especially when they follow him down the stairs, that is apparently very funny.

spoons and cousins

Stian had quite the exciting evening. First he got to play with a giant spoon while Mommy made dinner and Daddy put away the dishes. That was quite exciting.

Then he got to meet his cousin Paul. (he needed an outfit change between the two because he was sopping wet from drooling all over himself)

Kris's cousin Paul works for 3M and comes down to Indiana occassionally for work. So he rented a car and drove over from Muncie to meet Stian and come have dinner with us. It was great to see him and have him visit.
