Baler

Stian is quite sick. He's running a high fever and has a nasty cough and is wheezing. We ended up at Urget Care this morning because although it doesn't look like he's having trouble breathing, that wheezing was just getting to me and Kris. Turns out he has croup. He's on steroids now, hopefully that will kick in soon. He seems to feel okay once he's good and medicated up with Tylenol, but he's not eating much and he's not terribly active.

It was awfully nice of the farmers to come and bale up the oat mix across the street yesterday afternoon. Sitting on Daddy and watching the tractors was a great activity for a little boy who loves tractors and doesn't feel well.

Fiddlers

The Indiana Fiddlers' Gathering is this weekend in Battle Ground. Unfortunately Stian is sick this weekend, but we did stop by the gathering this morning for the free children's concert. He liked that for awhile, and he liked wandering around and listening in on the free workshops that were going on - he quite liked the fiddle one. If he's feeling better perhaps we'll go back yet this weekend.

We didn't bring our good camera as we pretty much went in on a whim. We were on our way to the farmers' market and saw it would be easy to park (it's not later in the day) so we stopped in. I did have my handy iphone along, however.

Father's Day

We had a quiet, uneventful Father's Day. We mostly hung out at home. We tried to go out for Indian food for dinner, but the restaurant was closed. So we ended up getting burritos, which was fine, but not as special as it should have been.

Silly

This picture they sent home from school of Stian cracks me up. It was on the door to their room for awhile and it made me giggle every time I dropped him off or picked him up.

Visit with Grandma and Grandpa

Every summer since grad school I've gotten together with four of my good friends from grad school for a few days during the summer. We read each others work and give feedback, eat far too much good food, shop and just have a really nice time. This year we met in Minneapolis, which worked well for us. Kris, Stian and I drove up together and then Kris and Stian stayed with Grandma and Grandpa while I went off with my friends.

Here are a few pictures from Kris and Stian's time up north. Since I wasn't with Kris and Stian I can't offer much narration. I also believe Kris has more pictures on his phone, so if that is the case, I will post some of those later.

House stuff

We haven't taken many pictures of Stian this last week because we have been busy with house projects. We got two projects more or less done this week.

First, we got the attic finished. It's been an unfinished space since we built the house, although we always planned for it to be finished. Kris has been working on it. He built the built-in cupboards and the access doors to the eaves cut and finished the baseboards and painted the walls, and my dad helped install the hardwood flooring on the raised up area and helped to finish up the painting and install the lighting and the handrail. We finally got the carpet put in last week though, so it is now a usable space. We love it. It's so nice to sit up there and watch our Netflix dvds.

Stian loves it up there. The rest of our house is hardwood or tile, so he loves running around up there and throwing himself onto the soft floor. He also loves how his cars and trucks and tractors leave a path behind them in the carpet while he is driving them. Here he is rolling around on the floor the evening after we had it installed.

This is a (somewhat odd) picture of the front of our house - you can see the diamond window from the outside.

Our other project has been to build a headboard for the master bedroom. We have never had a bedroom set for in there, and probably won't have the money for one for a long time (other priorities). So I found a pattern for one online and Kris put it together very quickly. I painted it. We bought a frame to set the mattress and boxspring up on and voila. We just recently hung the pictures in there as well (Kris made the walnut frames). So we've gone from no pictures on the wall and a mattress and boxspring on the floor to this:

(I still need to get curtains up. I have the curtains, I actually bought them years ago - they are just a white sheer tab top curtain. But I need the curtain rods. I'd been stumped because along the wall to the right of this picture there are three windows all together, so I need a really long curtain rod and I have never been able to find one in the store. Clever me I googled it last night though and found one that isn't too terribly expensive. So maybe we'll get that done next month.)

Here it is out in the garage ready to install:

Not bad! It's just a very simple, inexpensive design made from pine from Knock Off Wood. But I love it!
