Gas and Steam Power Show

The Tippecanoe Gas and Steam Power Show is going on this weekend. We went last year and it was a huge hit with Stian. We got there early this morning, around 9:00 or so. It's supposed to get up to 95 today with like 90% humidity, so we decided to go early, though it was still very hot and humid, even that early.

Unfortunatley, Stian didn't really like the show this year. It was just too noisy for him. His noise sensitivity is getting really bad. It wasn't even all that loud. Because it was so early they didn't have many of the steam engines or tractors or anything running yet, so there were just a few. But Stian kept crying that it was too loud and he was scared and he wanted to be carried and he wanted to go home. Oy. I'm not sure how to handle this noise sensitivity. Perhaps we just need to bring the noise canceling headphone that Kris wears mowing and Stian wears at home during thunder storms. He'll look ridiculous, but maybe he would actually enjoy himself. I hope he outgrows this.

The other problem might be that we don't have a stroller for him anymore. The one we had been using that was a hand-me-down from Klebo broke in the cargo hold of the airplane on the flight back from our cruise in April. I'm not sure if he'd feel secure in a stroller, but carrying around a 37 lb kid for an hour or more is not a lot of fun for either Kris or me. I hate to buy a new stroller at this point though. That, and I just can't find one that will meet our needs.

Anyway, we were able to get him to look at a few things without flipping out. We probably stayed about an hour, that was all he could handle. And that was all about Kris and I could handle of carrying him and listening to him yell and cry.

He did like the little combine toy we bought him while we were there though.

Tippecanoe County Fair

We took Stian to the Tippecanoe County Fair this afternoon. He didn't enjoy it nearly as much as we thought he would. Part of the problem was that we had to walk past the tractor pull to get into the fair, and that was very noisy, and Stian hates loud noises. So he kind of flipped out and wanted to go home. Then we went to look at some tractors, and that was kind of okay. But we went to look at the animals after that, and he didn't like that much either - who knew animals were so noisy? He didn't like the barns they were in, there was just too much noise in them. He liked the bunnies okay, but they were in the same barn as the chickens and roosters, so we could only be on one side of the barn.

Then we finally made it over to the rides, and he liked the rides quite a bit.

And then he cried and didn't want to go home.

Grandma and Grandpa at the Lake - Day Five

Wayne's friend Busola came up for our last day at the lake. We took the boys out in the canoe and the paddle boat and had a campfire to roast hot dogs and s'mores for lunch. The boys were so cute sitting by the fire chatting and laughin with each other.

Grandma and Grandpa at the Lake - Day Four

We celebrated Wayne's birthday on Friday. His birthday isn't until the end of the month, but we won't all be together then. Then we just had a nice day hanging out.

Grandma and Grandpa at the Lake - Day Three (Rodeo)

Thursday was the Spooner Rodeo. Nate was part of the Exceptional Rodeo, so we went to watch him. The Exceptional Rodeo was right before the full rodeo started, so we got to watch part of the rodeo as well. Stian enjoyed it, as did we. I think Nate had a good time too, which is most important, since it was his day.

And unfortunately that's where the battery in our camera died. But Grandma and Wayne got some more pictures, you can see them here: grandmaloftus.blogspot.com

Here's one from Grandma's camera:
