Perhaps...

Perhaps I spoke too soon.

Stian took his first steps today!

Communicating

It's so fun that Stian is really starting to communicate with us using words. His vocab continues to grow. Yesterday as we were leaving school and walking through the parking lot he was saying "car! car! car!" And then he said "bi!" I turned around, and sure enough there was a guy riding past on a bike. I don't know how Stian learned that word. We do call his little trike thingy his bike, and we do read "Duck on a Bike" regularly, but I still thought it was pretty good that he figured out that what that guy was riding was the same thing as his trike or as in the pictures. And then he said "bu!" I looked and indeed there was a bus going past. Again, I've told him a couple of times what a bus is as one drives past, but not very often.

This morning as I was dropping him off at school I was chatting with the director and she said his language ability is just amazing, that he speaks better than most of the kids in the classroom up from his.

Of course, he still can't walk...

A Day with Daddy

Stian has pink eye. The doctor thinks it's likely bacterial and not viral, so it shouldn't be contagious. But just to be safe we kept him home from daycare today. Because I teach on Tuesdays Kris stayed home with him. Stian actually seems okay now that he is on antibiotics and his eyes aren't all glued shut. So mostly they just had a fun day today.

I guess Stian was great for Kris. The last time Kris watched Stian during a nap time Stian refused to nap for him, so I was a little worried that he would do that again today. But when Kris went upstairs to put him down for his nap and sat in the rocking chair with him for a few minutes like I normally do before putting him down, Stian just pointed at the crib and said "Nie" - as in "Ni-Ni." I guess he was ready to go to sleep! So Kris put him in his crib and he took a nice long three hour nap.

It was cool today, but they went outside and played for a few minutes with Stian's bike. It looks like they were having fun while I was at work!

More bubbles

He definitely loves his bubbles.

Oatmeal

Stian gets oatmeal every night before bedtime. It seems to help him sleep better. Although the rest of his meals he has in his high chair for his evening oatmeal we sit on the floor in the kitchen. He crawls around, usually on the person feeding him, and likes to practice standing. We didn't get a picture of that, but he'll let go while eating and stand for a second or two.

Bubbles!!!

We might have made a mistake. We bought bubbles yesterday and now all we hear is "Bubble!" "Bubble!" "Bubble!" Someone is a little obsessed with bubbles.

Twenty-Five Words

Stian is having a little language explosion. He now knows at least twenty-five words. He can say other words, but these are the ones he says that he actually uses in context. It's possible I'm forgetting one or two, but these are the words he knows:

Mommy
Daddy
Uh-ho
Hi
Bye
Up
Down
Tickle
Luulah (the name of his lovey)
Doug (the name of one of his stuffed animals)
Bubble
Nose
Ear
Mouth
Eye
Baby
Car
Ball
Bilibo
Cracker
Water
Ice
Bug
Baa (as in: “what does a sheep say?”)
E-I-E-I-O (not sure if that one really counts, but he does say it when you are singing the song, but what does it mean?)

Edited to add - I forgot a few:
belly
beaver (you may recall Brent the Beaver from a previous post)
tick tock (not sure I should count this one as he has no idea what it means, but he does say it when you sing the song with it in it, and if i'm counting EIEIO...)

Such a big help

This is how Stian helped me make dinner tonight:

Fun in the snow?

We've had a fair amount of snow this winter, but we haven't been able to get Stian out in it until today. It's either been too cold or there hasn't been any snow on the weekends when we can all go play. Stian was decidedly unimpressed with the snow. Mostly I think he hated all the gear he had to wear to go out into it. And who can blame him? He could hardly move. But he kind of liked being pulled around in the sled, so long as we kept moving. Thanks to Uncle Wayne and Cousin Nathaniel for the sled!

But if he wasn't getting pulled in the sled, he wasn't too happy.
