Scoot

It's beginning to look like Silje may never crawl, but she's gotten really good at scooting lately.  She's getting fast, and suddenly she can get where she wants to go.  We're all in trouble because she likes to get into stuff!  Though this evening she scooted across the livingroom and through the kitchen to get to the low shelf where my mother has her cookbooks and she just sat there and eyed them for awhile (I had made her stop pulling them all off the shelf a little while earlier).  She just eyed them for a bit and then turned and went off in another direction.  So while she is *very* curious, perhaps she will learn what is okay to get into and what isn't?

And I really need to remember to stop putting her in light colored bottoms...

Hot

It was hot today. So when we were done catching bugs Stian decided it was time to get wet. (he also got Grandma wet by spraying her with the hose while he was helping her water the plants. I didn't get a picture of that, unfortunately.)

Meanwhile Silje was busy working on trying to get the buckles done on Stian's life jacket. Sunny and Ace were showing her how to do it when they were here and she's been working on it since. This is just Silje's type of project: fine motor, a puzzle, and something that big people do. She's been trying to fasten her own car seat buckles too.

And while all this was going on, we also saw a plane come in and land on the lake! Neat!

"I get"

When Silje wants something she points at it and says or yells something that sounds an awful lot like "I get." It's highly unlikely that she is actually saying that as it is far more grammatically advanced that a 13 month old should be able to produce. So either she's extremely advanced or she just got lucky that the word she made up for "I want that" sounds like an actual phrase.

In any case, while I was taking pictures of Stian catching bugs Silje was yelling at me "I get! I get! I GET!!!" wanting my phone.

So I gave it to her and turned the camera on it around so she could see herself. Her self portraits amuse me.

Bugs

Grandma and Stian pulled out a backyard explorer kit thingy this afternoon and went exploring. Mostly they (and me and Silje too) went on a bit of a bug safari. We found all kinds of bug: dragonflies, ants, spiders, daddy long legs, grasshoppers, beetles, butterfly. This was a good project for Stian because he has always been so afraid of bugs, but he declared later on that he now wanted to be a fisherman-paleontologist-entomologist.

Shell Lake

We took another trip to Shell Lake yesterday. This time Stian and I actually went swimming. We don't have any pictures from swimming, but we have pictures of other stuff. It was actually rather cool to be swimming, but I had promised Stian so I sucked it up and got in.

Bear!

My parents' neighbor always calls when he sees a bear when we are here in case we are out in the yard. He called yesterday morning and told us the bear was headed our way. So Dad and I stood and watched and sure enough, s/he came meandering out of the woods and onto the driveway. S/he sure looked like s/he was going to come up on to their porch - that's the direction s/he was headed - but my dad yelled at her before she had a chance.

Laura! and Sunny! and Ace! Oh My!

Laura and her girls Sunny and Ace (Sunniva and Anna Sofia) came to visit this last weekend! They came to help distract and wear out my children and it worked! And we had lots of fun. I took very few pictures so had to rely primarily on the pictures Laura and my mom took. It was a fun weekend!

Fisherman

The first words out of Stian's mouth this morning were "Mommy, I've decided what I'm going to be when I grow up: a fisherman." (obviously he hasn't watched World's Deadliest Catch) So my mom and I decided today was a good day to swing my the fish hatchery in Spooner. Despite the fact that the place was deserted and there wasn't much to see as all of the fish have already hatched for the year, Stian found the place fascinating. We spent a surprising amount of time there.

After rest time (Stian has pretty much given up his naps now, but I'm still insisting on a nap time for my own sanity) Stian asked Grandpa to take him fishing.

He caught two fish within the first 5 minutes, one was a sunfish the other a large mouthed bass.

Then they ran out of leaches. They didn't have nearly as good of luck with worms. So Grandma taught him to cast for awhile with just a weight on a fishing pole, and that was fun. But then Grandpa and Stian ran up to the store to get some more leaches. They fished some more, but didn't have any more luck.

So we decided to get out the remote control boat, which is always much fun.

And then later this evening he became a super hero. I can't remember what name he finally settled on for himself, but one of his superpowers was that he could shoot electricity from his teeth. And I do remember that he said Kris was Bug Propellant Boy. I think he meant Bug Repellent Boy, but I like Bug Propellant Boy better.
